Air India is owned by Air India Limited. This airline supports a fleet of Boeing and Airbus aircraft which consist of 90 international and domestic paths.

Indira Gandhi International Airport is the hub of Air India. If we talk about the competition, Indian airline is the largest international carrier out of India with a market share of 18.6%. also, with that it holds the third place in the domestic airlines in terms of Jet airways and indigo passengers.

Initially J.R.D Tata was the founder of it and it was named as Tata Airlines. Later when after the World War II it became a public Lt company it was renamed to Air India. It took delivery of its first Boeing 707 in the year 1960 and was named Gauri Shankar, also it became the first Asian airline to have jet aircraft in fleet.

Baggage Policy

Hand Baggage:

Hand bags are allowed on both international and domestic sectors on all. Dimensions to keep in mind is 115 cm (55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm) and maximum permitted weight is 8 kg per person.

Checked Baggage Allowance:

Passengers having the Gold Membership of Star alliance are free to enjoy additional 20 kg of permitted baggage in the economy class. Same goes for the members of Premium Club. Travelling with infant allows you to carry a stroller along, free of cost. The maximum limit for a single bag is 32 kgs in all Air India flights.

Excess Baggage:

In case the bags you are carrying exceeds the limitation then you need to pay for the extra weight. For domestic sector the excess baggage weight within India is INR 400 plus the GST Per Kg.

Delayed Baggage:

In case you get your bag late or do not get it then you are requested to contact Air India personnel present in the arrival hall. You’ll have to file a report. For the international routes if you get your luggage late then you will get it after 24 hours with a reimbursed of INR 3000.

Lost Baggage:

In case we couldn’t trace your delayed baggage in 21 days from the date of report then it is termed as Air India Lost Baggage, which means the passenger can claim for the lost baggage.

Damaged Baggage:

In case you get your baggage damaged then you are requested to contact Air India personnel after which your baggage will be examined access the cost of the damage.
The damage doesn’t include stuffs like broken wheels, damage of the items fragile or damage due to over packing.

In Flight Entertainment:

There are five channels available airing both English and Hindi content. There are certain flights like Boeing 777, 747 and 787 where you can demand in-flight entertainment. Also you can get bilingual in-flight magazine with the name Shubh Yatra.

Frequent Flyer Programme Schemes:

It has frequent flyer system called ‘Flying Returns’. this programme is shared by Air India and its adjunct.

Premium Lounges:

The Maharaja Lounge is where one get first and business class facilities. This airline also shared lounge with other airlines. Airlines in all holds 8 Maharaja Lounge.

Web Check in Facility:

Air India also gives you the facility of online check in through Air India website. You can here easily make a selection of your seat online and can get a print of the boarding pass. For any extra assistance you need to inform Air India in advance.

Mobile Check in Facility:

The airline has provided the passengers with the facility to book tickets through mobile easily. They have given a website which opens to a window from your mobile, also you get to choose your desired seat from your phone.
